The School of Law works under the guidance and advice of the following distinguished members of the advisory council
Prof.(Dr.) R. Venkata Rao is the Vice Chancellor of the National Law School of India University Bangalore. Prof. Rao’s academic qualifications are B.A. (Hons.) Litt. M.A. (Litt), M.L. and Ph.D. He has served for 31 years in the Faculty of Law, Andhra University in various capacities as the Dean, Faculty of Law, Principal, University College of Law, Chairman, Board of Studies in Law and Head of the Department of Law. He was the Director of Centre of Criminal Justice Andhra University from 1997-2009. He served as the Dean of Student’s Affairs, Andhra University and as the Officer on Special Duty, Andhra University. He also served as the Member of Executive Council of Andhra University from 2005 to 2007.
He has the distinction of receiving the Best Teacher Award from the Government of Andhra Pradesh in 2006, the Best Researcher Award from the Andhra University in 2003 and Gold Medal for the Best Ph.D. Thesis. He has been awarded the “Best Vice Chancellor Award for Outstanding Contribution to Education” during the World Chancellors and Vice Chancellor’s Congress- 2014 held on 27th June 2014 at Mumbai.
He has been associated with several prestigious bodies like Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), New Delhi, University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore, several Ministries in the Government of India, several Universities in India and Abroad as Expert in various Committees.
His primary area of research is Human Rights, Humanitarian Law and Criminal Justice. He has guided successfully 1 LL.D, 16 Ph.Ds. and more than 75 M. Phil scholars.
He has participated in a number of International and National Conferences and delivered a number of Keynote Addresses. To date he has published more than 120 papers in journal of National and International repute, apart from presenting several papers in National and International Seminars.
He has visited Almati (Kazakhstan), Geneva, Germany, Thailand, United States of America, Italy, Malaysia, Argentina, Nepal, Japan, Dubai, Mexico, Bhutan, China, Sweden, Kish Island (Iran), Russia, Singapore, Shanghai, Munich, Seoul, Istanbul, Dhaka and Colombo, Cape Town and Paris, among others. He served as Chairman, Board of Governors, and Asian Law Institute (ASLI) for the year 2010-2011.
Dr. Lalit Bhasin started his law practice in 1962 and has developed Bhasin & Co. as one of the largest law Firms in North India. His areas of specialisation include Employment & Labour Laws, Corporate Law (Formation of Joint Venture Companies, Foreign Collaborations, Amalgamations, Mergers, Acquisitions, Disinvestment); Laws relating to Information Technology; Contract and Conveyancing; Constitutional Law; Banking and Finance; Consumer Protection Laws; Disputes relating to Foreign Investment e.g. Shareholders Agreements, Collaboration Agreements, Agency and Distribution Agreements, Technology Transfer Agreements and Dispute Resolution Practice.
He was awarded Honorary Membership of the IBA in Melbourne in 1994 for outstanding service to the legal profession. He was awarded the Plaque of Honour by the Prime Minister of India in 2002 for outstanding contribution to the Rule of Law. In 2007, the President of India presented the National Law Day Award to Lalit Bhasin for “Outstanding Contribution to the Development of the Legal Profession in India and for his deep involvement and engagement in the maintenance of the highest standards at the Bar”.
Recently he has been conferred the Degree of Doctor of Laws (LL.D) Honoris Causa by University of Rajasth
Dr. Surat Singh is Harvard and Oxford educated top lawyer of India. He practices at Supreme Court of India and Delhi High Court. He is also an international lawyer. He was educated at Delhi (India), Oxford (England) and Harvard (America). With his three masters’ degrees in law from Delhi, Oxford and Harvard and his Doctor of Laws (S.J.D) from Harvard, he is arguably the highest educated lawyer of India. Incidentally, he happens to be the contemporary of American President Barack Obama at Harvard Law School during 1988-90. After his seven years stint at Oxford and Harvard, Dr. Surat Singh returned to India and started his law career in 1992 with the then Attorney General of India, G. Ramaswamy.
Dr. Surat Singh is also Harvard contemporary of President Barack Obama at Harvard Law School in late eighties and he actively campaigned for the re-election President Obama by starting a blog. He attended both the first and second inauguration ceremonies of Obama’s Presidency.

Dr. Surat’s law firm Surat Singh & Associates is based out of New Delhi and it offers legal services to national and international clients in corporate and business matters.
Mr. Jain received an MA (Oxon) in Jurisprudence from the University of Oxford. He was admitted to the Indian Board in 1992. He has worked with Liniaters & Paines, City Solicitors, London; the Chambers of Kapil Sibal for three years and the Chambers of Soli Sorabjee, former Attorney General of India, for four years.
His areas of practice are Corporate and Commercial Litigation, and Domestic and International Arbitration. He is part of advocacy efforts on legal, regulatory and policy matters that covers a range of subjects and involves interaction with the Government, policymakers and the media.
Commercial and Regulatory Disputes: He specialises in commercial disputes in the infrastructure, telecommunications, broadcasting, electricity and energy sectors, handling Contentious Disputes, Regulatory Advice and Strategy. Mr. Jain also deals with regulatory disputes, engaging with regulators, raising issues of public policy and assisting in formulating an effective legal regulatory strategy which is consistent and in line with the client’s business plan and interests.
Known as one of the long-serving, popular legal educators of the country, an institution-builder, the architect of the five-year integrated LL.B. programme and the Founder Vice-Chancellor of two of the leading law universities of India (National Law School of India University, Bangalore and National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata), Prof. (Dr.) N.R. Madhava Menon has endeavored for nearly five decades to put Indian legal education at par with those of the developed countries.
As a member of the Legal Education Committee of the Bar Council of India and later as the first Secretary of the Bar Council Trust, Dr. Menon influenced the shaping of legal education policies particularly in respect of the integrated 5-Year LL.B. Degree Course facing many challenges from within and outside the profession. He became the First Vice-Chancellor of National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), West Bengal in 1999. The Supreme Court of India appointed Prof. Menon as the first Director of the newly established National Judicial Academy, a training institution for higher judiciary in Bhopal. From legal education to judicial education, from instructing law students to imparting training for judges, the transition put Prof. Menon on a new path of scholarship and institutional development in support of the judicial system of the country.
Recognizing his contribution to the public services, The President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam honored Dr. Menon on the occasion of the Republic Day (2003) with Padma Shree, the first such award to a law teacher in India.
Amir Singh Pasrich read law at Oxford and trained in London before returning to India at a time when the Government of India had just started liberalising the economy in 1991-92. From 1992 to 1996 he was an associate with the legendary Indian law firm of J. B. Dadachanji & Co. as an advocate in the Supreme Court of India and as a corporate lawyer. He is Managing Partner of the law firm International Law Affiliates now called ILA Pasrich & Company, which he co-founded in 1998. He has handled a wide variety of corporate advisory work coupled with corporate litigation and arbitration. In 2006, Mr. Pasrich was appointed “Agent of Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada”, he is advisor to several Governments and High Commissions/Embassies in India.
Mr. Pasrich is currently a Co-chair of the International Sales Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA) and a member of the IBA’s India Advisory Group. In 1999-2000 he taught business law at the Indian Society of International Law and Diplomacy in New Delhi. He has been a director of Only Research Pvt. Ltd. – a company that set up one of India’s first Legal Process Outsourcing companies.
Amir Singh Pasrich also holds a first degree in Science from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and a law degree from Worcester College, Oxford; He has an ‘Oxford Blue’ for Polo and is an alumnus of The Doon School where he earned The Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award
Justice Deepak Verma started his legal career in 1972. He was Administrative Judge of Indore, Administrative judge of Jabalpur. He was entrusted additional responsibility as Welfare Commissioner, Bhopal Gas Victims. He was transferred Judge of the Karnataka High Court, later elevated as Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court and in 2009 as Judge, Supreme Court of India.
Professor (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha, is Professor of Law at the WB National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata. He completed his Ph.D. in International Law from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, LL.M. in International Human Rights Law from the University of Nottingham and LL. B from University of Delhi. He has authored 4 books and edited 6 books till date, these books broadly cover all aspects related with human rights, refugee law, and international humanitarian and constitutional law.
His writings on international law, refugee law and human rights have been published in reputed Indian and International Law journals. He is the only Indian associated with Michigan Refugee Law Group headed by Prof. James Hathaway. Prof. Sinha is associated with International Association of Refugee Law Judges (IARLJ) for more than a decades and actively participating in the activities of the IARLJ. In the recognition of his commitment in the field of human rights and humanitarian law, he was offered prestigious visiting Professorship at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, Lund, Sweden, for (2004-2005). He also served the Indian Society of International Law, New Delhi (2006-2009) as the Director. He has been elected as Secretary of All India Law Teachers Congress in year 2011 and again in 2013 for fourth time in a row.
Prof. M Afzal Wani is currently the Dean, University School of Law and Legal Studies, GGSIPU. He has got over 27 years of teaching experience. He is member of 19th Law Commission of India, member of the Governing Council of the Indian law Institute, Delhi Legal Service Authority and many other bodies.
