Dr.Atul Kumar completed M.Sc in “Engineering Physics” in 1991 from University of Roorkee (now known as IIT, Roorkee) and earned Ph.D in “Theory of OpticalSolitonsand Applications”from Department of Physics in 1998 from IIT, Delhi. Soon after PhD, Dr. Atul Kumar was invited to work as Postdoctoral research fellow (June 1998 – December 1999) for 18 months in “Light Wave Technology Laboratory” in Electrical Engineering Department at Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST), South Korea. Where he worked on various aspects of DWDM based optical communication systems and networks.
During January 2000 – March 2003, Dr. Atul Kumar worked as Group Leader (R&D) at Renka Inc. (A US based and VC funded company) and was responsible for the design, development and manufacturing of optical fiber based passive and active components.
In April 2003 he won Japanese Government Research Fellowship (Monbugaku-sho) to work for 2 years (April 2003 – March 2005)in “Optics Devices Laboratory” at Research Center for Advanced Science & Technology (RCAST), University of Tokyo, Kobama Campus, Japan. In Japan he conducted research on high power pulses and supercontinuum generation.
In 2007 Dr. Atul Kumar joined Ansal Institute of Technology and since then besides teaching he has served AIT/AU in various academic and administrative positions such as resident warden, Faculty I/C (Library), Dean (SAS and SCA), Dean (Admissions) and Professor I/C (PhD Programme).
During June – August2009, Dr. Kumar visited North Carolina State University (NCSU), USA to work on thin film Nanostructure at CAMSS lab in MSE Department.
Dr. Kumar has more than 15+ years (post PhD)of post-doctoral research, Industrial research & development and teaching experience and have published 10 research papers in International Journals. His current research interest includes Non-linear fiber optics and Nano-photonics. He is a member of ISTE and Optical Society of India.
