15 post-graduate students from Sushant School of Art and Architecture, Ansal University, will present their vision for Smart City Gurugram on December 15, 2017, 2 pm at the SSAA campus. Proposals will include initiatives for the five areas of Old Gurgaon, Civic Center, Jharsa Village transit-oriented development, City Center/ Sector-29, and Sikanderpur/MG Road. The presentation will be accompanied by an exhibition and panel discussion. The panelists, consisting of Ashok B Lall (sustainable urbanism expert), R.Srinivas (Senior Town Planner TCPO), Dr. Sumit Chowdhury (MD Gaia Smart Cities) and Shubhra Puri (Gurgaon First), will reflect on the proposals and road ahead in improving the quality of life of Indian cities. Residents interested in the positive transformation of Gurugram are invited to attend.
As part of this exercise, the students have absorbed Smart City guidelines framed by Ministry of Urban Development, analysed the social, economic and environmental context, and developed initiatives for transforming the city. The Smart Gurugram City Development Plan has also been created with a public participation approach. This platform was chosen as a means to empower the residents and make them more informed & involved with the development of their wards. In successful public meetings organised in October 2017, residents brought local knowledge and experience of the place and voiced their views and ideas. The students will now take and present their local area proposals, including a people’s plan, back to their respective wards on December 16 and 17. More information can be found at
